BS in Interdisciplinary Science with a Mathematics or Science concentration together with a Masters in Teaching results in a 6-8 Teaching License.
Students study a broad range of science and mathematics topics in this major. The mathematics concentration includes approximately 33 credits of mathematics including one semester each of calculus, linear algebra, mathematical modeling, geometry, and statistics. The science concentration represents the breadth of science covered in the middle school curriculum. Majors also complete two interdisciplinary mathematics and science courses including Experiencing Science, INSC 300, which is offered in conjunction with the Science Museum of Virginia. Students also complete courses in how to teach mathematics and science.
Students can complete their BS degree and a Masters in Teaching simultaneously. Typically the dual program takes five years to complete and results in certification to teach. You can apply for admission to the Teacher Preparation Program after completing 60 credit hours.
