Personal statement
- Please write a personal statement in which you discuss your reasons for seeking graduate education. Please provide evidence in the written statement of intent of at least three years of experience in teaching mathematics for kindergarten through eighth grades.

- Provide three letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be submitted from an immediate supervisor or principal and at least one of which must address the applicant’s potential for leadership.

Testing Information
GRE Graduate Record Examinations
MAT Miller Analogies Test | VCU MAT testing
- MAT contact information: Dr. Tipton, Counseling Psychology Building, 800 W. Franklin Street (Williams House); appointments for testing are mandatory and need to be made at least one week in advance808-828-6277; $60 fee is due when you take the test. Official test scores must be requested from either GRE or MAT and reported directly to the Graduate School. An official agency copy must be received by the Graduate School before a final offer of admission can be made, but you may submit your application before taking the exam.
Special requirements
- At least three years of successful K-8 mathematics teaching experience.
- Application fee
- A $50 nonrefundable application fee must accompany each application you submit. The fee should be submitted in check or money order form (no cash) made payable to VCU.
In-state tuition rates

- You must complete the Application for Virginia In-State Tuition form if you are applying as a Virginia resident, even if you have never lived outside the commonwealth of Virginia. If you do not submit this form, you will be classified as an out-of-state student. Your residency status will be confirmed in the Graduate School letter of acceptance. For detailed information please refer to the Graduate School web site.
Application submission
Please check all documentation for accuracy. Be sure that you have signed all forms where required and that you have made copies of all documentation. Place your application, $50 application fee, and all supporting documentation in one large envelope. On the front of the envelope, in the upper left-hand corner, print your name, return address and the curriculum and semester of entry for which you are applying (for the current cohort this will be Summer 2006). Please be sure to affix sufficient postage and mail to:
