Research interests:
Semigroups on topological spaces in which the operations of the semigroup are tied to the space in such a way that various continuity properties obtain. Questions of representation theory and analysis on the semigroups are investigated.

Courses currently taught:
History of Mathematics (MATH 530)
Expositions in Modern Mathematics (MATH 531)
Honors: Mathematics in Civilization (MATH 230)

Dr. John F. Berglund earned his Ph.D. in 1967 from Tulane University. Expanding on his dissertation research, he and his advisor Karl Hofmann wrote a book: Compact Semitopological Semigroups and Weakly Almost Periodic Functions. Berglund continued research in this and allied areas and teamed up with H. D. Junghenn and Paul Milnes to write two additional books: Compact Right Topological Semigroups and Generalizations of Almost Periodicity and Analysis on Semigrups: Function Spaces, Compactifications, Representations. From 1991 through 2003, he directed the University Honors Program.
